Umrah travellers to use T1 as of Aug.
Thousands of travellers, flying to Saudi Arabia to perform the minor Muslim pilgrimage or Umrah, will be using Terminal 1 (T1) instead of Terminal 3 (T3) as of August 1, officials at Cairo International Airport and the national carrier EgyptAir, said yesterday."The decision aims to reduce air passengers pressure on T3, which was initiated on April 27," Pilot Hassan Rashid, the Chairman of the Cairo Airport Company, said.He added that EgyptAir had leased two aircraft to bolster its fleet during the Umrah season, which reaches its peak during the holy fasting month of Ramadan that is expected to begin on August 22.Rashid said that the company had managed to solve many of the minor technical problems that appeared in T3, which served up to 533,000 air passengers since its opening.
